The guy with the kittens

I like going to school down town. I know, I whine and whine about the hour commute, and scary people at bus stops, but I really do like it. But it makes me sad too.

I’m not sure who else walks to portage on a regular basis, but have you seen that guy with the kittens? I want to give him everything in my wallet, every time I walk by. I saw a man digging through a garbage can today for food. After my last encounter with a homeless person at a bus stop, I made note to not even glance in his direction, in case he became offended. But… I don’t know. Does anyone else just want to sit down and give them a hug and tell them everything is going to be ok?

I don’t know where to start though.

On a more school related note, I’m definitely going to start checking my email in the morning. TWICE today I sat in a class for five minutes wondering where the hell everyone else was.

  1. Holy crap that last bus ride sounded scary. Next time you can ask for a ride home, your not that far. As for the kittens guy… that actually pisses me off. I feel bad for all animals that street people take as their own, if you can’t feed yourself, don’t starve an animal as well, or us it to get money.

    • I know, looking back, I should have just waited the extra hour for you to be done with your drink and bummed a ride. Especially, since at that point in time, I was staying at 217 eugenie, which is also pretty near your place. I suppose though that this experience got me a daddy funded low limit credit card, for cab purposes only.

As for the kitten and homeless person things, I never know what to do. I mean, homelessness and poverty is a real problem, and I feel like there are things that should be changed and should be done. Siloam mission is a step in the direction, for example. But handouts are not part of the solution.

When I visited my cousins in BC, my uncle took us on a walking tour of chinatown, victoria, and he told us why all the homeless people had dogs. It was because the government, if they recognized you had a dog, they would give you money every month to help with them, like the child benefit thing. I feel like this is exploitation, but it’s very frustrating because i want to help the kitty.
